Episode 39 – Bosom Buddies

So, you think the Brits have cornered the market on men-in-drag comedy? Well think again! In 1980, 2 relative unknowns named Peter Scolari and Tom Hanks starred in a show that sought to tear down the walls of sexism, to shine a light on gender inequality, to….wait, what? Oh, they just put on dresses and made lame jokes? Well, that’s ok, too, right? SOME of us at The Pilot Episode think so, and some of us don’t. Give you 3 guesses who’s who. Episode 35 – Kolchak, The Night Stalker

This time out, The Pilot Episode goes back. WAY back. Back to a simpler time, a time that even predates Cory: 1974. The late, great Darren McGavin was a leading man back then, and he carried a series for a season and some change as Carl Kolchak, AKA “The Night Stalker”….spooky huh? This is a show that Josh is excited about, because it was a direct influence on The X Files. Does it measure up to Chris Carter’s masterpiece? You know the drill, listen and find out!

Episode 34 – Clerks – the 4th episode, the one that aired first but wasn’t really supposed to, but it did so we’re discussing it…

Judge Reinhold as an actual Judge?!?! BRILLIANT! This time out, The Pilot Episode revisits Clerks The Animated Series to discuss the episode that actually AIRED first. In this case, it’s Episode 4, in which Dante gets taken to court by Jay. Did the network do the right thing by airing this ep first, or would they have been better-served by sticking with the actual pilot? I think we all know the answer, but listen anyway, it’s a fun show.

Episode 33 – Clerks

The voice of a generation (or at least the voice of a generation of slackers and fat guys), Kevin Smith brought his cult hit “Clerks” to television in animated form back at the turn of the century. It did not go well. The show was great, but the network just didn’t have ANY idea what to do with it. Is it better that it has fallen into the “done too soon” category, or would a lengthy run been well-received? The Pilot Episode weighs in (no pun intended, Kev), on this edition!

Episode 31 – Law & Order: SVU

This time out, it gets a little heavy on The Pilot Episode. We are discussing the first episode of the first Law & Order spinoff, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. This show deals almost exclusively with sexual assault cases. Due to the nature of this show, we recommend listener discretion. We also encourage you to make use of the help line listed at the top of the show if you or anyone you know has experience any type of physical, mental, or sexual abuse. There are people who care, and it isn’t your fault.

If you HAVE seen it, press play right now and let Jeff remind you what it was like to see it for the first time. That’s right, Jeff had NEVER seen a second of the show until now. Weird, huh? BREAKING BAD!!!!!!!

When is a Pilot Episode NOT a Pilot Episode? That’s a great question. This week our intrepid podcasters attempt to answer that question. Join Cory, Jeff, and Josh as they discuss the Law & Order episode that was MEANT to be the pilot, “Everybody’s Favorite Bagman.” Did the suits at the network make the right call in airing it as the 6th episode, or would this episode airing first have allowed the show to run a 21st season?
